Since creating a blog, and managing our primary website, I am learning more than I want to know about webmaster stuff.

I love Microsoft, we are a Gold certified partner!  However, today I ran into a problem where you cannot FTP files to your webserver if you are using FrontPage extensions.  So, we have been using FrontPage for a long time as our primary web development tool, and now we find ourselves corrupting files by using FTP to transfer files back and forth.

Since the rest of the world uses other web development technologies, the primary way to send these files to your server is FTP.  Now that I am using Elance to help me on my websites, I need to be able to use FTP!

I guess I am going to have to move away from FrontPage (well now it is Expression Web).

Ahhh, the learning stages again….

Be careful…it is addicting.

I recently used Elance to make updates to my blog site.  It was a great experience.

There are lots of talented developers in the world just looking for a chance to impress clients and make a decent living at it.  On their site,  you can search for talent that meets your project needs.

Then, once the keyword searches find the companies (they call them providers) that can fulfill your needs, you can then search by Feedback, Reviews, and Hourly Rate.  I personally looked for those with 95% or better Feedback, at least 5 reviews, and an hourly rate up to $20/hour.

I used Candid Software for my first project and was extremely pleased with their work.  Someone once said (I think it was in The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman) “Work will get done where work gets done best.”  I believe Elance has figured this out and has a great way of getting work done.

I am really curious to see how blogs like the the Manufit.com blog or any other social networking site for engineers, Lean practitioners, or manufacturing leaders will work out.

There is certainly some value in this phenomenon of online posting, blogging, and networking.  The question is, will people find answers to questions they are asking?  Will they take the time to read feeds from these sites?  Who will use these site, and will they find value.

I will continue to create links to site like this as the Manufit.com blog gets going.

I’ve always wondered what all of these links are. I’m beginning to understand many of the features of blogging, but have yet to understand how all of this works together.
